Preception

Matt Coombs / Jamey Hart / Hillary Kursh / Oliver Solmitz

November 4-27, 2016

Opening Reception: Friday, November 4, 6-10pm

Curated by Steve Basel

The title of this exhibit, Preception, reflects upon the mental frameworks and expectations that regulate the experiences we have in our shared environments. The works in this exhibit cast the immediately identifiable aesthetics of cardboard, pool liner, long johns, doodle markings, etc., as the main actor(s) or punctuation within an artistic arrangement and challenges the supposed one-dimensionality of common objects through their re-orientation and display. Whether it’s the anchor (Matt Coombs), referent (Hillary Kursh), muse (Jamey Hart) or subject (Oliver Solmitz) – each artist, while having different goals, shows a contagious appreciation and awareness to the distinctive characteristics of ever-present objects which, due to an initial perception of familiarity, go un-sensed and unseen.
